Today is the big day—Election Day! We have been waiting for this day for so long and it is finally here. We have endured a long campaign season and made our balloting decisions and now we await the results to find out the direction for our country.

My grandmother was one of the first women Representatives to the House of Representatives in North Dakota in 1922
I have fond memories of election and campaign seasons from growing up in a family passionate about politics. My grandmother on my dad’s side was one of the first women Representatives to the House of Representatives in North Dakota in 1922. My dad continued to share a passion for politics and served as treasurer on local campaigns in Seattle.
I remember being a young girl doorbelling through neighborhoods with my twin sister for various candidates my dad worked for over the years. He taught us the ins and outs of what it means to strategize and help support our local representatives. The word campaign actually means to work in an organized way toward a particular goal, a crusade or military operation. I was taught to endure and work hard and persevere as I went door to door dropping off literature highlighting the qualities of the candidates. My sister and I also served in Olympia, Washington during two different sessions as pages for our aunt who also served as a state representative and served on the King County Council. Campaigning was ingrained in my blood.

The passion to campaign is definitely an inherited trait for me and now I have a strong desire to campaign for a candidate that isn’t on the official ballot. His name is Jesus Christ and I am confident He is the most important person I can give my life to and follow. I want to get the word out about how amazing He is!
I call it the Great Campaign — campaigning for Christ.
My deep desire and zeal is to help people to know the way to live their fullest life and that is through getting to know Jesus. The verse that sums up the three biggest reasons to vote for Jesus as our leader and to follow His way is John 14:6: “I am the WAY, and the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
JESUS IS THE WAY
There is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus who died for our sin by giving up his life on the cross. We can know the God of the universe through Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him today and forever.
Last summer I was on a walk on the most beautiful road called Afterglow at Roche Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington when a road sign caught my attention. The sign said “Narrow Gate” and was cautioning drivers as they approached the narrow gate just up ahead. Two stone pillars flanked the sides of the road leading through the gate. I couldn’t help but think of the Bible verse that refers to Jesus being the way. Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

The sign on our walk
Jesus is the only way. The ways of the world are wide but His ways are so opposite of the worlds’ ways of living and doing things. Jesus is all about love, grace, forgiveness, peace, joy, gentleness, humility and strength. Something else caught my attention underneath the Narrow Gate sign. There was a second sign in red saying, “Yield”. Yield means to give in to and follow. What a perfect picture for following Jesus. By letting Jesus take the lead and following Him we learn the ultimate way of living life.
JESUS IS THE TRUTH
This is the most important fact about Jesus as our leader. He is the truth and John 8:58 says it perfectly: “Jesus is the truth and the truth shall set you free.” This verse has become so real to me over the years as I have combatted anxiety, uncertainty, suffering, and depression. As I put my hope in Jesus and anchor myself to His truths I am set free to live at peace knowing He has me in His hands.
It’s hard to find truth these days but if we take a look at the Bible we can find it. The Bible is the true word of God and as we read it we will be filled with hope and strength to live each day.
JESUS IS THE LIFE
This is a truth about Jesus that brings so much hope and joy. The verse John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” “More abundantly” means to have a superabundance of a thing– more than enough. Jesus brings life to the full for living today and for eternity in heaven.
So many are searching and looking for ways to stay young and live longer thinking that this earthly life is all we have. Knowing Jesus and following Him brings life that is forever and promises that are certain and never broken.
He wants to do more than we can ask or imagine as we trust him with our whole lives. This is real living the way it is intended. Jesus keeps his promises and we can stand firm on His truths.
