Featured Guests

A mom-daughter duo discuss the heart, soul, and mind of listening — the countercultural force they believe can quietly change the world.

Joy Zorn and Rachael Mitchell are a dynamic mother-daughter duo who love to speak together and connect with women. Rachael is Joy’s oldest daughter and in addition to the almost-matching white hair, Rachael hopes she emulates her mother in both spirit and action. Joy is a small but mighty grandmother to seven, mother of four, wife of one, and friend to hundreds. She spends her time serving others, playing with grandkids, hiking and gardening. Rachael is a writer as well as a wife and mom- spending many hours each day in her mobile office: her car driving her three kids to sports and music activities. Both women love Jesus and seek to walk faithfully in relationship with Him.

Madeline grew up in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue, WA, an avid ballet student. She met her high school sweetheart, Josh, at Bellevue Christian School then attended Santa Clara University and the University of Washington. She worked for a number of fashion companies in their buying departments until deciding to stay home full time after having her second child. She is currently an Associate Teaching Director in Community Bible Study, a Moms in Prayer leader and volunteers in her kids school.

Madeline has been married to Josh for 13 years and they have three children: Clara (8), Caleb (6) and Josephine (2.5).

Madeline’s perfect day starts with pastries, coffee and a hike in God’s amazing creation. One of her favorite places to be is working in her flower garden! She also loves to adventure with her family, connect with other faith-filled women, and steal away for quiet prayer and reflection time whenever possible.

Kaitlyn Kasel is a 17-year-old singer-songwriter and is honored to sing a brand new song she wrote for The Anchor. She is a senior at Eastside Prep and lives in Kirkland with her family. Special connection: Kaitlyn was babysat by Karina, Anchor founder Katie Robertson’s daughter. She is grateful to have had Karina as a role model!

Discussion Questions

We hope you enjoyed the Anchor at Home! At this time, your host can lead your small group through these discussion questions.

  1. Remembering someone who has listened well to you — what did they do that made you feel deeply listened to/loved?

  2. When do you find it particularly difficult to listen well to someone?

  3. What is one step you could take today towards being a counter-cultural listener? (Unhurried, considerate, non-reactive, curious rather than judgmental, etc)
